	Barry Birkey, owner of The Birkey Group, Inc., has maintained a successful remodeling business for over twenty years in the western suburbs of Chicago. In addition to his remodeling work, he has worked with his brother, Randal, in web design. But these two business interests have not kept Barry from his beekeeping avocation, an interest of many years. During his high school years, a close friend introduced Barry to beekeeping and that experience began a lifelong interest. Later he learned that his grandfather, great, and great great grandfathers were beekeepers, so perhaps the ancestral interest in apiculture was in the genes and inevitable! What began with several hives for enjoyment, quickly became a journey much more exciting than Barry ever imagined. Putting his woodworking and drafting skills to use, his first efforts were focused on producing working drawings for an assortment of beekeeping equipment. Barry has enjoyed making available some balance to the beekeeping industry by presenting alternative views of various beekeepers/scientists that will challenge some of the common held beliefs or practices of beekeeping. Barry enjoys woodworking, and some day plans to revive his past love of BMW motorcycles.
