I'd have to do some math, but it seems we get right at one teaspoon per super jumbo straw. These are approximately 1/4" in diameter and just under 8" in length to help verify we are dealing with the same straw size.
If indeed the straw holds one teaspoon the following formula should hold true. Since there are six teaspoons in one fluid ounce and at 1.5 ounces of honey weight per fluid ounce, that translates to: 1.5 ounce / 6 straws/fluid ounce = .25 or one quarter of an ounce per straw, net weight (more or less). Leading me to a question - How do you or how should one label straws for sale regarding net weight? We sell them in multipacks of five straws labeled at 1.25 oz. However, I've never bothered to weigh them on our state-certified scale. Just sticking my neck out again maybe? |

I'm not going to worry about a label for each straw. I intend to put an approximate weight (per straw) on the container that holds the individual straws.
Thanks for the info. I hate math ! charlotte |

For those of us who do our own straws, the common straw of choice is jumbo or probably even super jumbo (it's been too long since ordering I forgot which). I'd have to look up actual sizes, but a .22 bullet fits easily in one - another story for another time. About 1/4" dia and 7-7/8" or so in length. These can be held side by side with straws purchased from suppliers and are virtually the same

If you need to label them, just say: "Honey straw contains this much Honey. See Inside."

Paul- just do a search on BeeSource. This topic has been discussed at great lengths a few times in the past.
