there is a few in here that work the almond groves and I wondered if any of you use a broker or do you work for yourself making all the deals and setups?

We use a broker and he is worth every dollar.
If a person lived out there it might be easier to do the deals yourself, or if you were long established with a particular grower. Sheri |

I can see how a out of state beekeeper would use a broker, but I wonder if any instate beekeepers use one?

I have never used a broker but do make several trips out to California. I also work with a farm that I have 100% confidence in and are great to work with. Having said that, if you don't know the farmers you're working with and if someone else is working your bees, I'd use a broker.

Yes, we most certainly do! Make sure that the broker is bonded and have everything in print to make sure the the parties involved have an understanding. I have an old almond contract that stated that if the bee keeper did not fulfil his/her responsabilities that the family is also legally involved. I know a few who call themselves brokers. But, in essence they are not because they do not have a written contract in hand. Regards, Ernie
