Default Ft Hood and H1N1

Interestingly there has been no discussion of these two topics on beesource as of yet. There was a time when topics such as those two would have been put up for comment just as soon as they happened.

I don't have much of anything to say about H1N1. But, boy, what a terrible thing the Ft Hood shootings are to have happen to those who were preparing to go into harms way, only to find it at home.

I had the h1n1. It wasn't the sickest I ever been. not to much to worry about.

I think it is terrible what happened at fort hood. When the shrink can't mantally handle going to war there is something wrong.

H1N1 is just the flu. Not sure why it's being promoted as a big deal..

Ft Hood, very sad situation. Reserving judgement on the killer until more info comes out.
Surprised by Obama's reaction.

I've thought about Ft. Hood some and I think I kind of understand how it got to the point that it did.
All the accounts so far were that this guy was a time-bomb and it's really easy to sit and judge the military for not picking up on it sooner and stringing him up for treason, but I went through basic and AIT at Ft. Bening (before they figured out I really was a cripple and sent me limping home) and what I remember most is how well they drill into your brain that anyone "military" is your friend. "we're all green" is the saying. It means get over it we're all on the same team.
It's the equivalant of little Johnny down the street. Everyone on the block knows that something isn't right with little Johnny, but they expect the family to see it and handle it while the family has turned a blind eye because Johnny is part of the family. As long as Johnny still comes home at night we'll all pretend nothing is wrong until someone shows up missing...

H1N1,
Honestly, it scares the crap out of me... I work seven days a week and get up just after midnight. I don't take days off unless they are scheduled well in advance... period... When I do take off I hire my own relief and I wake up at midnight and call him to make sure all is well before I go back to sleep. I have to be that way or I go out of business.
I got the regular flu once and worked four days sick before I finally passed out on day five when I bent over to pull on my boots and wound up in the emergency room. I got a bag of fluids and made my wife drive me around for the day while I worked... I nearly lost some business over being late.
The thought of a pandemic and a vaccine shortage is the last thing I need to worry about.
I get nervous when I talk to people on the phone that sound sick!

H1N1- I'm not too worried about it, as I figure I've been exposed to it already.

Fort Hood- this is a tragic event for all the lives lost and their families, and although I may get flamed for saying this, I think it's tragic for the shooter too.

I don't know how anyone can hear about his actions and not feel at least some pity for him.

Why not pull the Fort Hood shootings and the "The dark side of psychiatry" threads together? From what little direct contact I have had with mental health professionals, I am sadly not surprised.

I too will have to wait for more info. I don't know if he cracked or if this was some sort of muslim terror act.

H1N1 is scary because it is extremely virulent. It may not be very pathogenic but recombination with a highly pathogenic strain would bring us back to 1918. I don't think the medical community is worried about the current form of the virus, but they all recognize it's potential for mutation.

I was not a big supporter of GW for a number or reasons but mostly for not being fiscally conservative enough....nonetheless I do think that he was a decent leader and a good person. I really wish I could say the same about his replacement.

Below is an article about the Ft Hood shooting and the actions of the former and current POTUS.

Quote:
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091107/..._hood_shooting
The White House said President Barack Obama would attend a memorial service Tuesday at Fort Hood. Earlier Saturday, Obama said in his radio and Internet address that the training designed to keep U.S. forces safe abroad prevented further deaths and ended the rampage at Fort Hood.

Former President George W. Bush and his wife, Laura, visited wounded soldiers Friday night at the post hospital. On Saturday, Texas Gov. Rick Perry also visited the wounded and said the soldiers he met with were honored to serve their country.
I would also like to note that GW also went to great lengths to meet with the families of those who lost someone in the war(s). His actions have earned my respect.

Words mean little. It's actions that count.
