Also, this guy is new to me (maybe not to you) but he states there were only feral black bees on Fiji when he arrived in the 80's...

i got 4 carni queens from koehnen's this year and they are all totally black. seams like the standard from them. i dont know but they all sure lay good patterns. i will see if they survive the montana winter.
