Default Windbreak

Just wodering if I realy need one. I have my hive about 10 ' away from and aimed at a 6' fence for them to fly over That's the SE side. The SW side about 15' from the edge of the hive with the fence wraps aound to meet the house, On the back side the deck is about 3' feet tall with rails. and only 5' from from the hive The other side is only blocked by a thin tree that loses all it's leaves. Should I only do the one side, the whole thing or ler nature takes it course. Thanks Rhonda

Hey Rhonda514,

I would find out what direction your winter winds come from maybe the north or northwest or what ever your situation may be. I would then sit out by the hives on a windy day and see how hard the wind is hitting the hives and where its coming from. Then you will know if you need a wind break and from what direction.

You can make a easy one with a few bales of straw stacked on one another.
